Glenridge facility ranked as Kennebec County’s largest nursing home in Q1 2026

During the first three months of 2026, Mainegeneral Rehab & Long Term Care – Glenridge emerged as Kennebec County’s largest nursing home, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.

The facility had 125 available beds, surpassing the Kennebec County average by 27 beds for the first quarter of 2026. On average, the center served 123.8 residents over the period.

The CMS awarded Mainegeneral Rehab & Long Term Care – Glenridge a perfect overall rating of 5 out of 5, well above the Maine nursing homes’ average of 2.9.

For the quarter, Waterville Center for Health and Rehab held the No. 2 spot in the county with 111 beds, followed by Maine Veterans Home – Augusta in third, which offered 108 beds.

Mainegeneral Rehab & Long Term Care – Glenridge recorded no fines or penalties in the first quarter of 2026.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate the number of the nation’s older adults is rising as the younger demographics decline. From 2020 to 2024, Americans age 65 and older grew by 13%, whereas those under 18 dropped 1.7%. Over the past 100 years, the country’s older population rose dramatically, increasing from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million by 2024.

Research published in 2021 predicts nearly half of U.S. adults age 65 and older—approximately 28 million individuals—will need long-term care services and support, with more than a third expected to require nursing home care at some point.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
