The majority of students in Kennebec County districts were white in the 2023-24 school year, according to the Maine Department of Education.

Of the 14,781 students attending schools in the county, 90.3% were white. Multiracial students were the second most represented ethnic group, making up 3.6% of the total enrollment.

In the previous school year, white students were also the most common group in Kennebec County, representing 91.1% of the student body.

Waterville Public Schools had the evenest distribution of races among county districts, with 80.8% white, 7.6% Hispanic or Latino, 7.6% multiracial, 2.2% Black, 1.5% Asian, 0.3% American Indian or Alaskan Native, and 0.1% Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander.

In the 2023-24 school year, public school enrollment in the county dropped by 3.9% when compared to the previous year.
