Maplecrest Rehab & Living Center was the second largest nursing facility in Somerset County during the opening quarter of 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.

The facility offered 58 licensed beds—seven more than the first-quarter 2026 average for Somerset County—and cared for an average of 43 residents throughout the period.

The CMS assigned Maplecrest Rehab & Living Center an overall rating of 1 out of 5, below the statewide nursing home average of 2.9 in Maine.

Cedar Ridge Center led Somerset County as the largest provider with 75 beds, while Woodlawn Rehabilitation and Nursing Center placed third with a total of 46 beds available during the quarter.

In the first quarter of 2026, Maplecrest Rehab & Living Center had no reported fines or regulatory penalties.

Somerset County, Maine, was home to four for-profit nursing facilities as of that period.

According to U.S. Census Bureau estimates, the U.S. continues to see a growing older adult population alongside a decline in younger demographics. The number of individuals 65 and older grew by 13% from 2020 to 2024, while residents under age 18 fell by 1.7%. The country’s population of older adults has expanded substantially in the last 100 years—from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million in 2024.

A 2021 study indicated that nearly 28 million people in this age cohort will likely need long-term services or supports, including nursing facility care—which may eventually be required by over a third of this population.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
