The Senate Judiciary Committee has advanced the nomination of David St. Pierre, former Chief of Police for Lewiston, to serve as U.S. Marshal for the District of Maine. The committee approved his nomination by a bipartisan vote of 20 to 2. The next step is consideration by the full Senate.
Senator Susan Collins announced the advancement and expressed her support for St. Pierre’s confirmation. “I am pleased that the Judiciary Committee has advanced the nomination of David St. Pierre, who has dedicated more than three decades to protecting the people of Lewiston and strengthening partnerships across local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies,” said Senator Collins. “His steady leadership during the most challenging moment in Maine’s recent history, the tragic mass shooting of 2023, demonstrated his professionalism, composure, and deep commitment to both public safety and public service. With his extensive experience and unique skill set, I am confident that Chief St. Pierre will serve the people of Maine admirably as U.S. Marshal. I look forward to supporting his confirmation on the Senate floor.”
St. Pierre retired last year after over thirty years with Lewiston Police Department and served as chief from 2021 until retirement. During his tenure as chief, he led a department with ninety-nine employees and managed a budget exceeding $10 million.
His law enforcement career includes roles such as patrol officer, State Drug Agent, Detective Sergeant, and Patrol Lieutenant, giving him wide-ranging experience in criminal investigations and interagency work.
In 2023, St. Pierre played a key role in leading local responses during Maine’s deadliest mass shooting incident and helped coordinate hundreds of officers from different levels of government.
He also oversaw planning for Lewiston’s new public safety facility aimed at improving cooperation among law enforcement agencies in the city.
St. Pierre is a graduate of the FBI National Academy (2018) in Quantico and maintains active membership in several professional organizations including FBI National Academy Associates.
Senator Collins has been advising on federal appointments in Maine through an advisory committee made up of community leaders and attorneys statewide; St. Pierre was one applicant assessed for Senate-confirmed positions.
