U.S. Senator Susan Collins, who chairs the Senate Appropriations Committee, has addressed a recent request from the President for a rescissions package. The proposed package amounts to $9.4 billion and targets funding that had been previously approved for various foreign aid programs as well as the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
Senator Collins stated, “The Congress has received from the Administration a $9.4 billion package of proposed rescissions of funding that had been previously approved for a wide range of foreign aid programs and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The Congress will have 45 days to act on the proposed rescissions package.”
She emphasized that despite the expedited timeline, “the Senate Appropriations Committee will carefully review the rescissions package and examine the potential consequences of these rescissions on global health, national security, emergency communications in rural communities, and public radio and television stations.”
This careful examination is intended to ensure that any decisions made do not adversely affect critical areas such as global health and national security.
