U.S. Senator Susan Collins has issued a statement following the launch of NASA’s Crew-12 mission to the International Space Station, which is commanded by Dr. Jessica Meir, a native of Caribou, Maine.
“This morning, Dr. Jessica Meir, of Caribou, successfully lifted off as commander of NASA’s Crew-12 mission to the International Space Station. She previously spent more than 200 days aboard the ISS and helped carry out the first all-woman spacewalks in NASA history.
“Dr. Meir’s career is a source of pride for all Mainers, especially the people of Caribou. I join Mainers across our state and Americans across the country in wishing Jessica and her crewmates a successful mission and a safe return home,” said Senator Collins.
Dr. Meir’s leadership on this mission follows her earlier achievements at NASA, including spending over 200 days on the International Space Station and participating in historic all-woman spacewalks.
