U.S. Senator Susan Collins visited the Town of Hartland on March 13 to tour local community development projects funded by more than $5 million in Congressionally Directed Spending she secured through the Appropriations process. She was accompanied by Hartland Town Manager Chris Littlefield, Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Dillon Russ, and other town employees during her visit.
The funding supports major infrastructure improvements at the town’s wastewater treatment facility, aiming to enhance service for residents and support local industry while attracting new businesses. In addition, Collins visited the Irving Tanning Community Center, which recently received a new roof and will soon have a new furnace thanks to $238,000 she secured in 2024. The center serves as a venue for public events, town meetings, youth recreation programs, and functions as an American Red Cross emergency shelter for residents of Hartland, Palmyra, and St. Albans.
“From improving a community gathering place to upgrading critical municipal infrastructure, these projects will help ensure that the Town of Hartland is better positioned for future growth and development,” said Senator Collins. “I worked hard to secure this funding, along with support for hundreds of other development projects that are helping communities across Maine carry out significant improvements that might otherwise have taken years.”
Congress reinstituted Congressionally Directed Spending in 2021. Since then, Collins has secured nearly $1.5 billion for 670 projects across all 16 counties in Maine.
The recent investments in Hartland reflect ongoing efforts to strengthen local infrastructure and provide essential services to communities throughout the state.
