Kennebec County ranked sixth in state for resident earnings in 2017

Kennebec County ranked sixth among counties in Maine by annual earnings per resident, according to data obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau in August.

The median income of Kennebec County residents was an inflation-adjusted $26,756 per year. Kennebec County had 51,055 households in 2017, with a population of 121,289.

The county with the highest median resident income in the state was Cumberland County. Cumberland County's median income was $32,098 per year after adjusting for inflation – $5,342 more than Kennebec County. It had 118,807 households in 2017 and a population of 289,173.

Aroostook County had the lowest annual resident income among counties in Maine, with a median income of only $21,284 per year. That was $5,472 less than the median income in Kennebec County at the time. Aroostook County had 29,844 households in 2017 and a population of 68,840.
