Colby College Falls in Hard Fought Battle Against No. 1 Wesleyan

The Colby College Volleyball team gave it their all last night against the number one seeded Wesleyan despite taking a 1-3 loss in the first round of the playoffs (20-25, 19-25, 25-18, 21-25). The Mules finish the season with a 14-9 record overall.

Each set was close in score with the biggest margin of victory for the Cardinals only being six points. Any of those rounds could have easily swung Colby's way as they did win the third set by seven. Although Wesleyan is ranked third in the nation for hitting percentage, the two teams almost had identical percentages with the Mules being .186 and the Cardinals at .190. Colby even ended up with five more kills over Wesleyan which was led by Emma Davis with 16 followed by LJ Grant with 12 and Sydney Bopp with eight. The decider of the game came down to blocks with the Cardinals grabbing 14 compared to the Mules six. Other standouts include Sydney Sick who assisted on 33 points as well as Bella Schumacher and Alli McKenney who combined for 37 digs.

Head Coach Lindsay Johnson stated, "It was a hard fought match and we came to battle. I'm proud of our team for stepping up and playing the number one team in the conference, who happens to be ranked 13th in the country, incredibly hard. Had we not made a few errors at critical times, it could have been a different outcome. Wesleyan's experience showed in those moments, but it only makes us hungrier for the future. We'll be back and as our program grows, our sights are set on being the eventual host site."

Colby Volleyball will have a strong group next year with Head Coach Johnson coming off back to back double digit win seasons while also having nine first years and two sophomores on the team. The Mules will be back in action next fall.
