The Colby Men's Swimming and Diving team hosted Maine State Rivals Bates and Bowdoin for the CBB meet Saturday. The Mules showed a lot of dominance and set record times taking the victory over Bates 142 to 138 and Bowdoin 188 to 95.
To kick things off, Colby outmatched their opponents in the team events taking first in the 200 Medley Relay (Brandon Xiong, Alexander MacLennan, Neil Mortimer, Shaun Kronenwetter) at a time of 1:29.95 (Colby record, 12th in the NCAA) and first in the 200 Freestyle Relay (Mortimer, Kronenwetter, Xiong, Allen Zhu) with a time of 1:21.05 (Colby record, 5th in the NCAA). For the individual events, Spencer Cohen won the 200 backstroke setting a time of 1:51.13 while Mortimer took home a first place in the 100 butterfly with a time of 49.04 (Colby record). In the diving portion of the meet, Tate Weltzin placed first in both the one and three meter with a score of 218.25 and 226.85.
In other events, although they did not place first, multiple school records were broken. Carson Rehkopf received second place in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:40.94 setting a new Colby record as Ben Spragg also set a school record placing second with a time of 1:52.05 in the 200 individual medley. Xiong grabbed a Colby record of his own with a time of 23.45 in the 50 backstroke while Mortimer placed a time of 20.18 in the 50 freestyle (Colby record, 6th in the NCAA).
Now both Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving will look towards NESCAC Championships which for the men will be February 16th-19th hosted by Wesleyan and the women will be the 9th-12th hosted by Bowdoin.
