Census Bureau: 2.9% of people in Kennebec County identified as multiracial in 2021

Of the 123,293 citizens living in Kennebec County in 2021, 97.1% said they were only one race, while 2.9% said they were two or more races, according to U.S. Census Bureau data obtained in June.

The most prevalent racial group among citizens in Kennebec County who reported being of a single race in 2021 was white, comprising 94.8% or 116,878 individuals. Following them, Asian accounted for 0.9% and totaled 1,057 individuals.

The percentage of multiracial residents in Kennebec County is 0.6% lower than the state average, which stands at 3.5%.
