FOIA Request to Maine State Board of Education Regarding Instructional Mandates for State K-12 Schools on December 10, 2024.
A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted by River Valley Today, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs. The request was made under the Maine Freedom of Access Act § 402 et seq., and it specifically asked for a list of all instructional mandates for state K-12 schools, including all required courses and/or general instruction.
As a news organization, we at River Valley Today are involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
We have reached out to the Maine State Board of Education with this request and await their response. We will continue to keep the public informed about educational policies affecting our state's schools as part of our commitment to transparency and accountability.
