Town of Belgrade Melanie Jewell and Rick Damren Won Re-Election to the Board of Selectpersons, and Sharon Frost Won a Seat on the RSU 18 School Board

4301e

Melanie Jewell and Rick Damren won re-election to the Board of Selectpersons, and Sharon Frost won a seat on the RSU 18 School Board in the March 19 Town Meeting election. Each of the victors will serve three-year terms.

All but two of the ballot's warrant articles won voter approval. Those articles would have contributed funding to a July Fourth fireworks display and would have paid for pedestrian crossing infrastructure on Main Street. The articles that voters approved included:

* Creation of a water district to resolve a salt contamination issue in the area around the Town Office.

* Authorization for the Selectboard to negotiate a contract with the Maine Department of Transportation to build a public water system to serve the impacted properties.

* A road-paving project this summer.

* Departmental budgets for the Town.

* A $12,000 contribution to a first-responders memorial.

In unofficial vote totals, Jewell received 274 votes, Damren 263 and Nicholas Alexander 157. In the RSU 18 School Board race, Frost received 168 votes compared to 124 for Penelope Morrell, 56 for Brian Wedge, 25 for James Smith and 18 for Stacey Dowling.
