Colby College Men's Tennis Battles at ITA Regional Tournament

The Colby Men's Tennis team traveled to Brunswick, Maine this past weekend to compete with the Region's best at the Northeast ITA tournament. Bowdoin College hosted the event that featured eight Mules players. The event had 2 singles draws and one doubles draw.

In the A flight singles, senior captain Jan Wenger came up short against Jason Shuler of Williams 7-5, 6-3. Junior captain Joey Barrett lost a close first round match to Tufts' freshman Aarush Ganji 6-3, 6-4. Sophomore Jake Cohen was also defeated by a Jumbo, sophomore Derin Acaroglu, by a close 6-1, 7-6(6).

Senior Ben Powis highlighted the weekend for the Mules, making a deep run to the quarterfinals of the B singles draw. Powis blanked Brandeis freshman Haidyn Green in the second round 8-0. On Saturday morning, Powis battled past Bowdoin freshman Mark Kneiss in 3 sets, 6-4, 0-6, 10-4. Powis's run was cut short in the quarterfinals by Tufts' sophomore Lachie Mactinosh 7-5, 6-3. Sophomore Josh Kaplan won his first round match in the B singles flight against Nicky Desai of Bates 8-4. Kaplan fell in the next round to Bowdoin freshman Jack Mendelson 8-4.

The Colby tandem of Barrett and sophomore James Bogdanovic dominated their first round of doubles against a Brandeis team 8-4. The duo was knocked out in the next round by the Williams team of Shawn Berdia and Jason Shuler. The mules fell in three of four first round doubles matches by extremely close scores. Cohen & Wenger lost 8-6, Aidan Kwong & Powis lost 8-6 and Josh Fleishman & Kaplan lost 8-7(5).

Colby will conclude their fall season this weekend at the Wallach Invitational at Bates College.
