Bowdoin College Volleyball Opens Season With Shutout Win Over Southern Maine

The Bowdoin College volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 win over the University of Southern Maine in its season opener on Wednesday night in Morrell Gymnasium. The Polar Bears (1-0) claimed their 13th consecutive win in the series by set scores of 25-14, 25-16, 25-14 as the Huskies dropped to 1-3 on the season.

Match Highlights

  • Tied at 4-4 in the early going of the first set, Bowdoin rolled off a 9-0 run on Olivia Deane's service, easing to a 25-14 win in the opener. 
  • Southern Maine stayed within striking distance in the second set before a late 6-0 surge by Bowdoin, highlighted by three service aces from Jenna Robbins, gave the Polar Bears a 20-11 advantage en route to a 25-16 triumph.
  • Bowdoin put the match away with a big 11-2 run midway through the final set, taking advantage of late service runs by Sarah Evans and Ella Haugen to clinch the match with a 25-14 win.
By The Numbers

  • Bowdoin featured a balanced offensive attack, led by Jenna Robbins' 10 kills, as she eclipsed Southern Maine's kill total for the entire match (8). 
  • Robbins also had four service aces and 13 digs as the Polar Bears posted 12 aces overall in the win.
  • Ella Haugen had 31 assists while Maya White led Bowdoin with 17 digs. 
  • Sarah Evans had five kills and 14 digs while Jaida Hodge-Adams had six kills and two blocks.
