The Colby College Men and Women's Swim and Dive Team hosted eight colleges on the weekend for the second straight year of the Maine Collegiate Winter Invite. The Men came out on top overall defeating six other teams with a score of 1,103 points while the Women placed fourth out of eight other teams with a score of 570 points (third in Maine).
The Men's team events continued it's dominance on the season after placing first in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:22.92 (Neil Mortimer, Brandon Xiong, Alexander MacLennan, Shaun Kronenwetter) and in the 400 freestyle relay (Carson Rehkopf, Xiong, Kronenwetter, Mortimer - 3:03.90).
In the individual events for the Women, Ann Tolan grabbed a first place finish out of 65 swimmers in the 50 Butterfly at a time of 25.84. Tolan kept up the pace and grabbed another first place, this time in the 50 freestyle out swimming 92 competitors (23.31). Avery Rappaport wiped the competition in diving winning the one meter with a final score of 244 and the three meter with a score of 270 (Colby record).
On the Men's side, Mortimer also placed first in the 50 butterfly out of 59 swimmers with a time of 21.78 (Colby record) and in the 50 freestyle over 78 competitors (20.43). Jackson Rocket finished right behind in third in the 50 butterfly with a time of 22.67. Mortimer kept on pushing grabbing another win in the 100 butterfly at a time of 49.29 with Rocket again right behind this time in second (50.95). Ben Spragg raced well grabbing two wins and two Colby records. First in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:53.37 and in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:07.44. Spencer Cohen got on the board with a first place finish in the 200 backstroke at a time of 1:51.91. Anthony Minickiello wrapped it up for Colby winning the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:56.74.
More second place finishes for the Men include Nate Cordick in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 4:45.88, Rehkopf in the 100 and 200 freestyle (46.36, 1:43.80), and Mortimer in the 100 backstroke (51.44). MacLennan finished third in the 100 individual medley, good enough to set a new Colby record at a time of 51.86.
The Aqua Mules will now get a month break before facing Middlebury College at home on January 7th.
